Engraved in tight scroll and vine patterns with script "SAM COLT" barrel addresses. Manufactured 1856 and 1859, this pair exhibit 6 inch octagon barrels, iron trigger guards and backstraps, and 5 shot cylinders. Varnished walnut stocks with blue and case color finishes. Cased in appropriate red velvet lined walnut case with proper flask, brass mold, oiler, and cap tin. Serial number 157298 is matching with exception of properly engraved loading lever "7145". Number 112309 is matching with exception of wedge "461". These Gustave Young pattern engraved '49 Pockets are quite similar in style but are not identical. Both having Gothic styled dogs head intertwined in the engraving on the left side of barrel flat and frames are almost identical. Conditions are almost identical, giving great credence that this pair has been together for a great while. CONDITION: Good as both have turned a dull gray finish with properly operating actions and functioning. Bores are dark with strong rifling. Grips have numerous small abrasions and bruises but present themselves very well. Case is exceptionally fine with strong partitions and and accessories are very fine. This is a extremely attractive set with ID plate in lid reading J.W. Nyc. TDW
