Deluxe presentation grade with rare and most desirable backstrap inscription: "D.D. Fisher From the Inventor". Classic Gustave Young Germanic scroll engraving on a punch dot background. The barrel, loading lever, frame, trigger guard, hammer, backstrap, wedge, and screws are all engraved. Wolf head motif on hammer and Gothic dog motif on left side of barrel lug. Serial number 108878 manufactured in 1855, matching numbers on loading lever, barrel, frame, trigger guard, backstrap, cylinder, and wedge. Punch dot either above or below serial numbers designating factory engraving and/or special finishes. 5" barrel with "SAML COLT" hand engraved in script on top barrel flat. Beautiful deluxe grade burl walnut one piece grips with "piano" finish. "COLTS PATENT" hand engraved on left side of frame. Housed in a deluxe grade English oak case with brass inlay pull/handle and corner protectors on lid. Brass inlay latches and corner protectors on case body. Fitted in the partition style with green baize interior. Complete with James Dixon Sheffield powder flask, brass Colt Patent bullet mold, combination tool, and cleaning rod. CONDITION: Excellent overall with most of the original high polish blue remaining on barrel. Traces of case colors on frame, hammer, and loading lever turning to patina. Cylinder turned a pleasing gun metal blue/grey patina. Bore is excellent. Action is tight as new. Approximately 80% original silver plating remaining on trigger guard and backstrap. Deluxe grade grips are excellent plus with little wear and most all original highly varnished/piano finish remaining. Engraving is sharp and crisp. Case exterior is excellent with little wear. Interior is very good with moderate wear. Overall a high condition and most desirable Samuel Colt presented Model 1849 revolver. -MKS-
