Blued steel barrel finely engraved throughout length and octagonal at breech with beautifully engraved muzzle. Bolted lock blued en suite with barrel engraved with foliage, hammer engraved en suite with lock. Signed Mossman and Co. German silver full stock with ramshorn butt engraved throughout with foliage and reserve initials JMcN. Blued belt hook. German silver pricker in the form of a thistle. Ball trigger blued. CONDITION: Barrel excellent retaining much original blue finish in imitation of Damascus. Lock retains considerable darkened blue as does hammer. Nipple in excellent condition with original concentric striations visible. Top of hammer possibly repaired. Stock in excellent condition with no appreciable wear and only minor imperfections. Belt hook retains much original blue. Action is tight as new. Bore is excellent. Oak case appears to be adapted from an English percussion revolver and lined in blue velvet with accessories comprising bag flask, screwdriver, capbox, Eley Bros cap tin, bullet mold, and associated buttons with Gaelic imagery. Accompanied a letter from the Royal Armouries about the pistol, determining that the pistol is most likely a dress pistol from Birmingham or Belgium. PROVENANCE: James D. Julia. MZ
