Serial number 5677, manufactured in 1849. Matching serial numbers on all major components including the loading lever and wedge. Octagon to round 7 - 1/2" barrel marked "SAM'L COLT NEW YORK CITY" reading from breech forward. Blue with case hardened frame, loading lever, and hammer. Brass square back style trigger guard with sub-inspection letter "G" stamped on front of trigger bow. Brass backstrap, with sub-inspection letter "N". One piece oil finished walnut grips with inspector cartouches on both sides. Frame marked on left side in three lines "COLTS/PATENT/U.S.". Sub-inspector letter "K" stamped on left side of frame, left side of hammer, and left side of loading lever. Cylinder has oval locking slots with roll die W.L. Ormsby's Texas Ranger and Indian fight scene, marked "U.S. DRAGOONS" and "COLTS PATENT". CONDITION: Excellent overall with approximately 20% original blue on barrel, mainly on bottom under the loading lever and on lug. Faint traces of case color on frame and loading lever, overall a pleasing grey patina. Cylinder shows traces of original blue with strong markings and roll die scene. Brass trigger guard and backstrap are a nice medium mustard color patina. Grips are excellent showing good cartouches with moderate wear, small repair to left side grip at the toe. Nice original unmolested screws. Overall an excellent martially marked First Model Dragoon with desirable and scarce U.S. Dragoons marked cylinder. -MKS-
