Manufactured in 1886. .40-65 caliber, 28" full octagon barrel, full magazine, deluxe checkered burl walnut stocks, double set triggers, shotgun butt with steel buttplate. The 1881 is known as one of the most highly finished of all early Marlin products. Receivers are finished in a very high polish with an inky blue finish. Deluxe variations are very uncommon as are special order features. CONDITION: Very good with over 90% bright blue finish remaining on barrel and magazine with spots of light corrosion and pitting existing on left side of barrel from poor storage. Receiver retains well over 95% bright inky blue finish with spots of finish loss and corrosion on left side from poor storage. Varnished wood stocks are also excellent with crisp checkering, a couple of minor handling marks and small scratches, but generally excellent overall with at least 98% original varnish; hammer shows 75% case hardening that is toning slightly, loading lever shows 80%-90% case hardening, forend cap shows 90%+ bright original case hardened colors; breech shows the factory original .40 Cal. marking with a large "65" stamped behind the .40 Cal. which is probably of the period; markings are razor-sharp, edges are like new, interior is excellent. An exceptionally fine Special Order Model 1881. TDW
