(ca 1909) 28" Dovetailed barrels are engraved "Joseph Lang & Son. 102. New Bond Street. London. W." on narrow swamped game rib. Barrel flats are stamped with older London nitro proofs and 1992 Birmingham re-proofs for 2 - 3/4" chambers. Bottoms of barrels are stamped "J. L & S" and with serial numbers. Case hardened sidelock action features automatic safety, pivoting third fastener, and single non-selective trigger. Locks are detachable with hinged latch at rear of each lockplate. Action and lockplates are engraved with scroll borders and a few minor splashes of scroll, mostly on latch covers. Makers name is on each lockplate. Top lever and trigger guard are blued. Serial number is on trigger guard tang. Intricately marbled stump figured dense European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 14 - 5/8" over checkered wood butt. Stock also features drop points, point pattern checkering around bottom of grip, and a vacant silver oval on toe line. Matching splinter Southgate ejector forend has Anson release. CONDITION: Excellent as reconditioned by Raymond St. Ledger at Thomas Bland & Co. London in 1993. Bores are excellent. Action is very tight. Appears to have had little or no uses since reproof and reconditioning. Barrels are on face. Ejectors are strong and in time. A wonderful "Best Quality" British small bore sidelock. TDW
