According to the factory letter, this gun was shipped on May 7, 1883 as follows .38 rifle, octagon barrel, plain trigger, Peep rear and Beach front sight, rifle butt, casehardened, sling and swivels. All of these features remain on this rifle. In addition, there is a Winchester buckhorn rear sight, full magazine with varnished walnut stocks. The original leather sling is still solid. CONDITION: The barrel and tube show nice factory blue blending with soft patina, sharp edges and legends. Wood is proud to metal with a few handling marks but handsome aging. The case colors have softened to a nickel appearance with age spotting but no real color. The rifling is sharp and the action is crisp. A very nice special order Model 1873. This fine rifle still has its original cleaning rod in the butt. DB
