This would be considered a Model 3F fine gallery rifle in .22 short caliber with deluxe checkered pistol grip stock and Swiss buttplate. As was common on this model, this rifle features double set triggers. The engraving on both sides of frame features the two panel scenes surrounded by standard scroll that include a deer on left and buffalo on right, both of which are standard Ballard designs and can be seen in numerous illustrations in the Ballard book by Dutcher. The tang sight is a mid-range Vernier as seen on page 288, while the front sight is a wind gauge globe front adjustable sight as seen on page 291. The barrel is mounted with a circa 1905 Malcolm scope and mounts as seen on page 275. CONDITION: The barrel retains approximately 95% original blue that is starting to thin and mix with plum. The frame is a dull gun metal color. Lever and hammer still retain some case colors. The stocks are excellent with wonderful grain and finish and proud to metal with sharp checkering. The bore is strong and bright and the action is crisp. A lovely old Marlin Ballard target rifle. DB
