28" barrels with raised matted ventilated rib are marked with model, manufacturer and caliber information top of left barrel. Engine turned barrel flats are stamped with serial number, gauge, and chamber information. Barrels are marked for IC and Mod chokes. Case hardened flat side Model 21 action features automatic safety and gold plated single selective trigger. Action is engraved with near full coverage multi colored relief gold inlay of quail in appropriate backgrounds accentuated by gold inlaid acanthus scroll which runs over top of action and frames scenes on sides and bottom. Left side of action depicts Gambel's quail in desert environment in red, yellow, orange, and white gold. Cacti in foreground and in distance are in semi relief yellow gold. Right side depicts a covey of scaled quail in silver and bronze colored gold in similar open environment but without cacti. Bottom of action has scene of a pointer and spaniel in white gold with yellow gold ears and spots, watching a departing trio of bobwhite in open woodlands. There are heads of two other quail on sides of fences. Trigger guard portrays a trio of bobwhite flying through open work pierced background. Engravers signature, Capece, most likely Rocco, noted Belgian engraver, is on trigger plate. Full feather crotch figured American walnut straight grip buttstock measures 14 - 1/4" over blued skeleton steel buttplate with more gold accents. Checkering is of 21-B style with whorls and Fleur-de-Lis accented by inlaid gold wire borders. In addition to the checkering, there is an area of relief carved acanthus scroll at bottom rear. A vacant gold oval is on toe line. Matching braced beavertail forend with usual release continues this over-the-top checkering pattern and relief carved accents. Gun is housed in good quality tan leather case with stitched leather corners, which has leather trimmed canvas outer cover with zippered closure. Interior is lined in burgundy cloth, and has silver embossed black leather WRA label in lid. CONDITION: Excellent, appears to be unfired since proof, with only a very few light handling and assembly marks on all wood and metal surfaces, and a little age discoloration. Mechanically excellent. Case is excellent. MGM62.
