(1887) The W. and C. Scott Premier was the highest grade normally offered. This example has 32 - 1/4" fine Damascus barrels engraved "W. & C. Scott & Son. Patent Triplex Lever Grip The Premier Quality (Castle logo) 10. Gt Castle Street Regent Circus London" on slightly raised game rib. Barrel flats are stamped with London black powder proofs and 1981 London nitro reproofs for 2 - 5/8" chambers. Robust, case hardened back spring W. and C. Scott patent sidelock action features automatic safety, pivoting third fastener engaging cloverleaf dolls head rib extension, patent gas checks, crystal window cocking indicators, and double triggers. Action and locks are engraved with near full coverage very nicely cut small scroll surrounding scenes of waterfowl in various poses. Left side has flying duck at rear of action and standing snipe at front. Right side has walking goose toward rear and flying snipe at front. Left lockplate has a trio of geese, one standing on shore, two swimming. Right plate has a similar trio of ducks. Bottom of action and trigger plate have very nicely detailed grouping of three herons. Area around hinge pin on left side is engraved "W. & C. SCOTT & SON" "PATENT - BLOCK - SAFETY". Blued trigger guard has a standing heron on bow and serial number on tang. Very nicely fiddle figured and well marbled "Prince of Wales" round knob buttstock measures 14 - 1/4" over brown leather covered pad. Flat top point pattern checkering is at grip, and a gold shield at top of grip is engraved "W. de L. K". Matching splinter forend with fancy steel tip has Scott's patented push button release. Gun is accompanied by a pair of brass snap caps, some hinge pin lube, and four "Gauge - Mates" two to adapt 10 to 12 gauge, and another to adapt 10 to 20 gauge, all in zippered pouch. CONDITION: Very fine, as partially refinished. Barrels retain nearly all of a re-brown with excellent definition to pattern. Action and lockplates retain 60 - 70% original case hardening color, some areas quite strong, thinning and silvering otherwise. Stocks retain nearly all of a smooth oil refinish, checkering re-run. There is evidence of considerable repairs at wrist. Bores are very fine, lightly frosted, with some scratches. Action is tight. Gauge Mates are excellent. MGM90.
