Originally made as a SMLE I* produced in 1901, and so marked on the right side of the stock socket. Marked on the left side of the stock socket "ENFIELD/ 1905/ SHT LE/ COND II*", as well as several other arsenal upgrade dates and stamps, the last date appearing to be '11. Still in .303 which is rare for these Cond II guns as most were later converted to .22 training rifles. Original volley sights. Magazine cutoff is still present. Loading guide on bolt. Matching numbers, although original receiver number was lined out during an arsenal upgrade. Unit marked on the brass buttplate tang "7.12/ 2.LD.F.CO/ 26". Made without a stock disc. Proper high hump rear hand guard. Early style magazine. Brown leather British military style sling is unmarked. CONDITION: Retains a pleasing patina with traces of finish. Markings are clear. Wood has dings and handling marks, shows wear. Bore is very good with strong rifling. Fine mechanical function. GR
