(1907) 30" dovetailed barrels with slightly raised concave matted rib are fitted with Briley thin wall chokes. They are engraved "Westley Richards & Co London." and Importer: "Von Lendgerke Antoine. Chicago. Agents." on tops. There are 3" triangles of nicely cut shaded scroll at breech ends of barrels. Barrel flats are stamped with Birmingham nitro proofs for 2 - 3/4" chambers. Guns actual serial numbers "09174" are stamped on bottoms of barrels. The "0" prefix is not included on serial numbers stamped on water table, or engraved on trigger guard tang. Case hardened scallop backed hand detachable lock (patent use number 1147) round bodied action features automatic safety, typical Westley Richards sliding third fastener engaging long dolls head rib extension, and Westley Richards patent "One Trigger" which has been gold plated. Action is engraved in "Deluxe" style with near full coverage well cut shaded scroll of varying size. This scroll with floral highlights is more deeply cut on fences. "Westley Richards & Co" is on scroll terminated band on each side of action. Removable blued floorplate exposes engine turned detachable locks marked for left and right. Trigger guard with scroll on bow has serial number on tang. Newly made Prince of Wales grip extra long buttstock of nicely veined and light figured European walnut measures 16 - 1/8" over checkered wood butt fitted with original engraved steel heel and toe plates. Grip with borderless point pattern checkering is fitted with skeleton steel cap. A vacant gold oval is on toe line. Matching short semi beavertail Deeley ejector forend has Anson release. Gun is housed in near new high quality oak and leather case with brass corners and outer zippered canvas cover with leather trim. Paper Westley Richards label is in lid and case is lined in burgundy cloth. Partitions are wood topped. Case contains a pair of William Powell marked brass and wood snap caps, square oil bottle, cleaning rod with brush and mop, and three thin wall choke tubes (2 in gun) with wrench. Also included is a Brady type leather VC case with stitched leather corners lined in burgundy cloth. A reproduction label is in lid. Case contains straps and original buttstock and forend. It appears that the original length of pull was approximately 14" over checkered butt with heel and toe plates. Checkering is of fancy type with fleur de lis intrusions at knob grip. CONDITION: Very fine, as refurbished. Barrels retain nearly all of a good quality re-black. Matting of rib and engraving is very slightly softened. Action retains most of an older re-color, engraving still clear. Top lever, floorplate, and trigger guard are re-blued, and show a hint of silver on sharp edges. Newly made stocks have only a few slight handling marks in their original finish. Bores are very fine, with one or two light pings. There is evidence of dent removal at bottom of left barrel 12" back from muzzle. Action is tight. Barrels are on face. Ejectors are strong sand in time. Trigger appears to work well. Newer case is near new. Older case is very fine with a few marks in leather. Interior cloth has some rubs. Original stocks, nicely refinished, checkering re-cut. (An invoice in new case from John F. Rowe, Gunmaker, details this work.) Also in case is an invoice for installation of Briley chokes, and a Westley Richards factory letter with copy of ledger page for gun number 9174 a 14 gauge, with a date of July 8, 1859. (Obviously not this gun) MGM53.
