This Winchester manufactured October 1918 according to barrel date currently has its original wooden checkered forend and buttstock, but with World War II retrofit bipod, muzzle, and rear sight. This gun has the typical Winchester address at the top of receiver with crossed cannon ordnance proof and also ordnance flaming bomb proof on top of barrel forward of receiver. Dull matte World War II arsenal refinish as is typically found on guns which underwent the retrofit for World War II. Accessories include an original World War I era rear sight, and flash hider. In short, the necessary parts to put the gun back into World War I configuration. Also included is a composite buttstock, smooth wooden forend, carrying handle, which could put this gun into its World War II configuration. Also included is third model gas regulator and spare barrel still mint in its original grease wrapper. Also included is an original Web waist belt with one lustrous blue and four gray phosphate finish 20 round magazines. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is extremely fine to near excellent World War II era smooth arsenal refinish over a very few scattered areas of very light pitting. Bipod legs have a black enamel painted finish. Mechanics are crisp and positive with the selector/safety being rather free-moving. Bore is extremely fine, shiny and bright. Bolt face is extremely fine. Wood furnishings are very attractive with typical albeit light handling marks and dings with a couple professionally repaired cracks on the buttstock running parallel to the bore line which are so well repaired as to be barely noticeable. Brass wedge visible on left side of checkered forend with professional and beautifully repaired cracks running parallel to the bore line on either side. Stocks are very solid and serviceable, and overall the gun is very attractive. This is a very nice collectible gun and could well be a Veteran of both World Wars, and able to be put into configuration for either depending upon the desire of the owner. It deserves a special place in the collection of an appreciative collector. From the estate of noted cartridge collector and World War II veteran William H. Woodin. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 3 OR 4 AS CURIO AND RELIC ELIGIBLE. JWK 2020-05-062
