A fine, made in 1930, "Golden Era" 12 bore sidelock ejector game gun with 28" chopper lump barrels which is choked improved cylinder on right and full on left. Rib is filed, tapered, and flat top with a round steel bead at muzzle. Right barrel reads "MADE OF SIR JOSEPH WHITWORTHS FLUID PRESSED STEEL." Left barrel reads: "J. PURDEY & SONS. AUDLEY HOUSE. SOUTH AUDLEY STREET. LONDON." Bottom of barrels read "MADE IN ENGLAND" on the short rib and have the guns serial numbers stamped on both barrels and left barrel is also stamped "CHOKE". Barrel flats are marked with the appropriate London proof marks, nitro proof and chamber length of 2 - 3/4". The Beesley patent self opening action features an auto safe (SAFE inlaid in gold), side clips, hidden third fastener, disc set strikers, raised rib tumbler end cocking indicators, and double triggers. Action and locks are engraved with exceptionally fine Purdey style rose and scroll with "J. PURDEY & SONS." at base of lockplate. A traditional reddish brown walnut stock features a nicely checkered English straight grip with long bottom strap, drop points, silver initial oval which is engraved "C.H.W" and a checkered butt. Blacked engraved top lever and trigger guard. Splinter forend with matching checkering, Anson release and stamped with the initials "S.W" on the forend iron. Oak and leather Purdey makers case with nickel plated snap caps, turnscrew, disc set striker tool, jag, mop, brush and Purdey book. CONDITION: Very good. Barrels retain 90 plus percent original blue with some handling marks and wear at muzzle. Stock is good with nearly all of a hand rubbed oil finish, with some subsequent handling marks, some bruising to checkering, sharp edges somewhat rounded with stress shake behind left lock. Forend is very good. Vintage case is fare to good, but worn with exterior scuffs, small tears to leather, detached handle and interior flaws to lining. Action is tight, with good case colors (approximately 90 percent) and ejectors are timed well. CP
