Very attractive Bergmann MP35/I machine gun manufactured by Karls and Ruhl as indicated by stylized “R” marking on left side of receiver next to the serial number. Other markings on left of receiver include the model designation “MP35/I” and added eagle proof over “SSzzA1” to left of model marking. Visible numbers of this gun are matching including receiver, bolt, trigger guard and barrel, although barrel is a renumber from “8 _ 86” to “a 2928” on ring forward of socket. The bolt of this gun, in addition to the matching 2928 a serial number also is marked, “R.F.V. 1790” with commercial eagle proof indicating this gun was in the possession of the German Reich’s Ministry of Finance. This is a middle range commercial contract gun just exactly correct to be a finance ministry gun. The SS marking was added at some later date in an attempt to enhance collector’s value. This model was one of the last of the high-quality milled steel machine guns before Germany and subsequently other countries went to the practice of using stamped metal parts. Very interesting and desirable features include a quick release barrel, dual action trigger with full-auto lever for selective semi or fully automatic fire, and safety on left side of receiver. This specimen has a laminated stock. Three adapted magazines are included. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is extremely fine to near excellent lustrous refinish with lightly sanded laminated stock which still retains matching number on underside of butt to rear of sling swivel. Mechanics are fine. Bore is extremely fine, shiny and bright. Bolt appropriately in the white with fine bolt face and replaced extractor. One magazine shows bare metal where it has been adapted to fit and “tab” added to the back. Brass screw in top of follower to make it functional to supply the final round into the chamber. This is a select-fire machine gun. Finance Ministry marked guns have their own special collector’s following and this specimen is very nice indeed! THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 3 OR 4 AS CURIO AND RELIC ELIGIBLE. JWK 2020-05-044
