Originally manufactured as the Model 1917 for American military use, the Model 1928 variant was produced by Colt, who acquired the leftover Model 1917 machine gun parts from WWI and assembled "new" models for commercial sales both domestically and internationally. This example's semi-automatic receiver was manufactured by Ohio Ordnance Works. The right side of the receiver is marked "BROWNING WATER COOLED GUN/ SELF LOADING MODEL OF 1928/ U.S. CALIBER .30/ MFG'D BY OHIO ORDNANCE WORKS/ CHARDON, OHIO/ S/N - WC - 401". The bolt shows a "7.62" stamp on the top, indicating its conversion to 7.62x51mm NATO. It is recommended that a gunsmith validates the chamber and headspace before firing. Correct Model 1928 thumb safety on right side of the trigger. The Model 1928 is complete with a Colt commercial tripod with the original data disk with the number "766". CONDITION: Metal components retain bountiful amounts of reapplied parkerized finish, with brass components on the jacket and receiver turning a brown patina. Bore is bright and retains strong rifling throughout. Action is smooth and locks up tightly. Tripod retains the vast majority of reapplied paint and few small areas of wear and loss to the finish scattered all around. An exemplary specimen of a Colt Model 1928 machine gun, converted to semi-auto that would certainly make for fine addition to any enthusiast's collection. MW
