This writing sample is dated January 15, 1774, and inscribed within the heart for Jacob Rees in "Hatvil" Township - a phonetic spelling of Hatfield Township - founded in 1730 and located in what is now Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. The name of Jacob Rees appears in a list of men from Hatfield Township deemed eligible for military duty in 1780. However, his name does not appear on the roll of men from Hatfield Township who served in the Fifth Battalion of the Philadelphia County militia, indicating that he may not have served. CONDITION: Not examined out of frame. Losses, toning and water damage.
