This is one of the .276 caliber semi-automatic rifles made by Vickers-Armstrongs Ltd in England in the early 1930's. Originally an American design of the mid to late 1920's, it performed well in field tests but eventually was passed over in favor of the M1 Garand rifle. Featuring a ventilated metal handguard that covers 2/5ths of the barrel which has spiral cooling fins underneath. Luger-style toggle action with an integral Vernier peep rear sight at the rear of the receiver with windage adjustment. Well marked on the left side of the receiver "PEDERSEN SELFLOADER PA/VICKERS-ARMSTRONGS LTD.". Serial number of 162 is present on the right side of the receiver at the rear. Marked above the chamber with "C/2" in an oval. Early style Birmingham Nitro proof mark on the left side of the receiver and on the top of the bolt. Finger groove stock is fastened by two barrel bands, similar in style to the US model 1903 rifle bands. The bottom of the stock has factory cooling vents from the magazine forward. Checkered stamped steel buttplate. 10 round integral box magazine which is loaded by a stripper clip. Accompanying this gun is one original extraordinarily rare stripper clip. While the guns are rare enough on their own, the original stripper clips are virtually unheard of and impossible to find. Also included with this gun are eight original full 20 round boxes of .276 ammunition made at Frankford Arsenal and dated 1929. Four of the boxes are still completely sealed. One of the boxes has the end torn, but it still sealed. One box has been open from the top, however it is complete. Two of the boxes appear to have been opened from the top, however they're wrapped in plastic and we can't tell if they've been opened. Some of the cartridges have poked small holes in the bottom of four of the boxes. CONDITION: Among one of the finer examples known. Retains easily 80-85% original dull blue military style finish overall, having thinned somewhat on the barrel and turned a pleasant brown. All markings are sharp and clear. Wood is very fine with some minor handling marks. Some wear to the heel of the buttplate. Bore is excellent with bright sharp rifling. Fine mechanical function with a nice crisp action. Stripper clip is in fine condition. Ammunition is still sealed in boxes, the cartridges in the single open box are clean. GR
