Remington manufactured approximately 5,000 total examples including rifles and carbines between 1880-1888. This example being the exceedingly rare 20" round barrel carbine with full length magazine tube. Chambered in .45-70. Blue with case hardened hammer and forearm tip. Plain straight grain walnut. Dovetail blade front sight mounted to front barrel band. Rear fold down ladder sight. Rear of bolt marked three lines "E.REMINGTON & SONS. ILION N.Y. / PAT. FEBY 24 MCH.17.1874. JAN18 / SEPT 26 1876. MCH. 20 JULY 31 1877". CONDITION: Very good overall. 90-93% thinning original blue on barrel, magazine tube, and receiver. Floorplate and triggerguard are mostly a gunmetal grey patina. Replaced front sight. Bore is fine with light abrasion. Wood is good with added finish showing moderate wear. The wrist is cracked in two places located behind the top tang running to the crossbolt. A section of wood measuring 1/2" x 2 - 1/2" has been added to the wrist as a repair. -MKS-
