Manufactured January 1971. Monobloc lump barrels with blade front sight and notch rear sight on matte rib, which drops just after rear sight and rises just before front sight. Soldered on sling eye on island on bottom barrel. Right side of breech engraved "BY RENATO GAMBA", left side engraved "MANNLICHER MOD. SAFARI / MADE IN ITALY". Weep hole on left side. Underside of barrel with German proof marks, including Munich and Nitro proofs, alongside other information including "CAT. 240", "71A", and Steyr import marking. Schnabel forend with Deely release with scroll engraving on release and external portion of iron. Iron numbered internally "56090", matching rest of gun. Scalloped boxlock action engraved with acanthus throughout with Germanic oak leaves on scalloping shields. Left side with a vignette of a trumpeting elephant, bottom with snarling predatory cat, and right side with another predatory cat, facing away. Interior marked with serial number and German nitro proof, again assuredly from the German company that provided barrels and action to Renato, "ICAM" near trigger guard. Non automatic safety, crossbolt safety, cocking indicators near opening lever. Double triggers with front set, short tang. Pistol grip stock with darker wood grip cap, two panels of point pattern checkering, and small shadowline checkpiece. Sling loop at toe. Stock terminates in a black line spacer and black BMR recoil pad. Accompanies by a brown leather Renato Gamba case with basketweave sling, Renato Gamba registration card, test target for Remington soft point 270 grain rounds, two snap caps, and Renato Gamba emblem hanger. CONDITION: Very good as field used. Barrels show some silvering at high points but retain the vast majority of their factory finish. Action is very good with crisp engraving and a few minor blemishes from field use. Wood is excellent, again with some light field use and one minor 1/4" crack at left side of action. Action works appropriately when cycled by hand, bores are excellent, bright and shiny, with strong rifling. Case is very good with some scratches and handling marks. Accessories are fine with light evidence of use. EW
