Truly exceptionally rare offering of a Browning Model 1917 tripod still in its grease impregnated protective burlap fiber wrapping within original cardboard box, complete with label. Label nomenclature reads, in part, “MOUNT, GUN, MACHINE M1917A1 / 1 EA”. Indications are that this box was packaged in June of 1957. One can clearly discern the outline of the tripod head and the legs and base assembly under the burlap. Also included is a 42” long tripod pedestal shaft, and outstanding original dovetailed early wood ammunition box. CONDITION: Tripod legs and head unissued still in preservative wrapping in cardboard box which remains solid and serviceable with original paper reinforcement tape at the edges. Original label clear and legible. Recently added orange label tape, “Original G.I. Box – Do not Discard”; labels added which can be easily removed if desired. Pedestal shaft retains high 90%s original green paint coverage. Wooden ammo box extremely fine, never painted, showing a pleasing vintage patina with cartridge outline stencil clearly visible inside bottom indicating which way to emplace belts into the box. A gem of a find for the advanced Browning machine gun enthusiast. The only tripod in such a condition this cataloger has ever come across. JWK 2020-05-017
