c. 1890. This is an all cast-iron and very early poker machine whose manufacture is unknown. Similar in appearance to a counter success by Mills Novelty, this machine sits on a large cast iron base as opposed to wood or a swivel base, has five reels with cards, and plays in the same manor as a Mills, but has no distinguishing marks or manufacturer's identity. The machine is heavy cast-iron, with no evidence it was ever plated, and quite possibly could be a prototype. The 1¢ operation dates it early, and the large cast iron base serves as the coin drawer for the machine, and it's doubtful this heavy machine could be lifted with the over sized coin drawer full of pennies. The cards are aged and original and it has keys and plays well. A remarkable survivor and unlikely to be a duplicate in anyone's collection.
