Chopper lump barrels with bead front sight (vacant space for moon sight) mounted on a raised island with matted ramp, with slots on sides for sight hood. Concave rib between front ramp and rear sight, which is a combination ladder (graduated from 400-1000 yards) and three leaf express sight, one standing for 100 yards, two folding for 200 and 300 yards with silver express lines. Quarter rib at rear is machine matted with dolls head rib extension. Barrels engraved "A HOLLIS & SON, LONDON" and "MAKERS TO H.R.H. DUKE OF CONNAUGHT". Underside of barrels with a sling eye soldered to rib, "1389" in front of forearm lump, serial number, "Gusstahl Krupp Essen" steel designation inlaid in silver, Birmingham proofs, and proof for 55 grains of Cordite under a 400 grain bullet, as well as a minute "A&T" stamp on left barrel. Forearm with Anson release case colored on interior; exterior iron with light scroll engraving. Action flats with Birmingham proof marks. Receiver engraved with further scroll. Rotary underlever opener. Back action locks decorated en suite with receiver. Pistol grip stock with full length tang running to horn grip cap with point pattern checkering at wrist. Silver escutcheon at toe, vacant, and horn buttplate. Shadowline cheekpiece. Accompanied by two pieces of brass headstamped "KYNOCH .400 NITRO". CONDITION: Barrels have largely faded to an even dove grey, mixing with some flashes of patina and bluing in protected areas, such as the ribs. Much of the silver inlay in the steel designation has lifted, and there are a few minor marks over the left breech. Forearm has been gently sanded and refinished, leaving checkering obliterated in some spots and reduced throughout, normal handling marks and few minor chips at high edges. Receiver is very good with scattered areas of old inactive oxidation; inside of rotary lever with vivid case colors, and exterior of trigger guard with considerable blue where protected by rotary. Stock broken at wrist with evidence of previous repair with wood fill attempted. Stock has been refreshed with additional varnish that has smoothed the checkering out and has some termite damage at heel. Action works appropriately when cycled by hand with strong springs, bores are excellent with strong rifling and some even oxidation throughout. A worthy candidate for restoration by a talented craftsman. EW
