Very attractive Colt U.S. Navy overstamp Thompson with Cutts compensator with unnumbered matte finish 50 round “L” drum “NEW YORK N.Y., U.S.A.” with 1920 patent dates, 1 Bridgeport marked 20 round magazine, and 1 Seymore 30 round magazine. Typical Colt and Auto Ordnance markings on the sides of the receiver, and the added “U.S. NAVY” with overstamped “8” over the “1” in the model designation. Visible numbers are all matching. No “JHB” inspection mark visible to the rear of the ejection port on the right side of the receiver indicating refinish. Internal parts are original Colt bolt with 1928 actuator, spring, and buffer. Stock retains anchor proofmark below attachment iron. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is extremely fine to near excellent deep blue refinish with some slight thinning and loss of finish to the high points with some barely discernible pinprick of oxidization. There is a small area of thinning finish on the actuator just to the rear of the charging handle. Typical loss of finish at buttstock attachment point. Buttplate finish is original thinning to a pleasing gray brown patina. Mechanics are crisp and positive. Bore has extremely fine strong rifling with light pitting in the grooves. Bolt face is extremely fine. All three pieces of wood are extremely fine to near excellent with a rich brown color and very few light handling marks. Drum magazine has a near excellent dull blue finish. Stick magazines a near excellent deep lustrous blue finish. This is a select fire machine gun. Without a doubt one of the very finest condition specimens available for private ownership. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 3 OR 4 AS CURIO & RELIC ELIGIBLE. JWK 2020-11-047
