Manufactured circa 1967 in standard military configuration with spike bayonet. Blued finish 20" barrel chambered 7.62x39mm and fitted with hooded post front and tangent rear sight. Receiver marked with triangle 26 arsenal stamp and "Type 56" in Chinese characters. Standard wood 2-piece military stock. Retains cleaning kit in trap butt and a khaki web sling. Gun is accompanied by 1971 dated Saigon Area capture and import papers noting this rifle by serial number as a trophy of Captain Jerry D. Conaway, a decorated Vietnam combat veteran. During the Vietnam War, Conaway served through 3 full tours including one with the infantry, artillery, and finally ending his service as a UH-1 Iroquois pilot attached to the 162nd Attack Helicopter Squadron "The Vultures". He received 3 purple hearts during his service, one in 1966, 1967 and 1971. CONDITION: Good. Retains majority of arsenal applied blued finish fading to a grey patina on receiver and other edges. Stock shows moderate to heavy wear as expected with military usage. Bore very good with strong rifling. Numbers matching. Functions appropriately when cycled by hand although bolt hold back is gummed up and does not lock bolt back unless it is manually engaged. BAS/JD
