Lot consists of: (A) Loewe production German Gewehr 88 Commission rifle. Made 1891 at Loewe in Berlin. Chamber marked "S" meaning updated to fire spitzer ammunition. No import mark. Barrel and receiver are matching. Other components look to be mismatched. Imperial German proofs on the right side of the chamber. Right side of the stock has obscured imperial cartouches. Unit markings of "35.F.9." on the front band and "5.P.2.123." on the rear band. Of note this rifle has no charger bridge, but does have a sheet metal dust cover over the bottom over the clip ejection port. Original blade front sight with rear sight adjustable to 1800 meters. Original finish on the barrel jacket and other parts, receiver is correctly unfinished. Original wood stock as well, with correct metal buttplate. CONDITION: Metal retains little to none of its original finish (on the components that were finished), with wear and patina forming in areas. Wood has numerous handling marks, dings, gouges and scratches. Bore is frosted with good overall rifling. (B) French MAS MLE 1949 semi automatic rifle. Made early 1950s in the "F" serial block. Made for French forces with no provision for a spike bayonet (unlike the Syrian contract guns). No import mark found. Bolt, carrier, receiver trigger guard, buttstock, and forestock match. Top cover does not match. Blade front sight has a splotch of red paint on it. Arsenal refurbished at some point. Parkerized finish. Wood stocks with metal butt plate. Includes original French sling and plastic wrap. CONDITION: Metal retains 95% of its arsenal reapplied finish with a few handling marks and scratches. Wood is excellent with a few handling marks and scratches. Bore is clean with crisp rifling. Magazine has light edge wear. Sling is excellent. JWA
