Scarce Russian SVT-38 semi automatic rifle. Predecessor to the SVT-40, made 1940 at the Tula Arsenal. Tula star marked on top of the chamber. Various small proof marks on the chamber area. No import mark found. Matching serials on the receiver and bolt carrier. Trigger guard is not matching. Stock is not marked. Magazine does not match and has a boxed Finnish Army "SA" on the floorplate. Rifle is not Finnish marked, but could have came from there. Standard post front sight with rear sight adjustable to 1500 meters. Metal has been lightly arsenal refurbished at some point. Lightly oil finished wood stock with smooth metal butt plate. CONDITION: Metal retains 85% of its reapplied finish with some wear and scratches. Wood has minor handling marks, dents, and scratches. There are a few gouges on the right side of the butt. There is a hairline crack on the left side of the stock, above the magazine well. There is a hairline crack on the left side of the wrist as well. Bore is frosted with very good overall rifling. Mechanically fine. A nice example of a gun that rarely comes up for sale. JWA
