Manufactured in 1888 and according to the Buffalo Bill Historical Center letter, this Colt Lightning Rifle was deaccessioned in June of 1990 from the Winchester Arms Collection. Then it was sold at auction, held on June 22, 1991, to benefit the Buffalo Bill Historical Center. Prior to being transferred to the Buffalo Bill Historical Center, this Colt Lightning Rifle was part of the Olin Corporation Winchester Collection. There are no Colt records on this rifle. "WRA. Co." is engraved in script on the top of the buttplate. Octagonal barrel with a Rocky Mountain front sight and a sporting rear sight. Two-line barrel address on the top flat of the barrel. Full-length tube magazine that holds 15 rounds. Rampant Colt logo on the left side of the receiver. Checkered panel Walnut front stocks and a plain strait grip Walnut rear stock with a crescent butt plate. It is an all blue gun with a case color hammer. CONDITION: This gun is in spectacular condition with virtually all of the factory finish. It has a couple slight handling marks in the brilliant blue finish. The forestock has a few small pressed spots in the checkering. Bright and shiny bore with crisp lands and grooves. A collector would be hard-pressed to find a Colt Lightning rifle in better original condition. REW
