Desirable US Marine Corps Pattern 1904 jacket. This style of jacket was used from the late 1800s through the early 1900s by the Marine Corps. The jacket resembles earlier style uniforms such as the M1872 officer's sack coat but is even closer to the Pattern 1892 jacket. As with all pattern 1892 uniforms, the collar was rounded. For the Pattern 1904 jackets, the distinction lies in the collar, as the Pattern 1904 jacket was constructed of a higher cornered collar with 2 neck fastener devices. This example has the correct higher cornered collar with the neck fastener devices, details of which are consistent with the Pattern 1904 uniform regulations. The jacket features exquisite mohair braid trim with 5 toggle button style front closures. There is a mohair braid button missing on the left epaulette. Black cotton is used to elegantly line the interior around 2 interior pockets and the sleeves, which are lined with white cotton. There is 1 4" tear in the lining that is otherwise intact. There is no evidence of intense fraying, even around the heavy wear areas. Overall a very clean piece of US Marine Corps regalia. CONDITION: Very good. JLD
