Designed by revolutionary firearms designers Hugo Schmeisser and Theodore Bergmann, the MP-18.I "Maschinenpistole 18/I" was the first true submachine gun to be adopted and fielded in combat. Utilized by the Imperial German Army during the final stages of World War I, the MP-18.I proved to be an effective trench clearing weapon, being issued to Sturmstruppen (Shock Troopers) with deadly efficiency. This example is stamped "MP.18.I/ 1920/ SYSTEM/ SCHMEISSER" on the top magazine well collar. Indicating that this example was retained by the German Government in accordance with the Treaty of Versailles. The left side of the receiver is stamped "THEODORBERGMANNABT.WAFFENBAUSUHL". Matching numbers are present on the receiver, magazine well collar, muzzle cap, front sight, rear sight assembly, main forend hinge, main hinge screw, trigger guard, trigger bar assembly, receiver latch, receiver latch bracket, return spring guide, bolt assembly, charging handle, buttplate, and stock. Features include a 1-piece walnut stock, perforated barrel shroud, as well as barleycorn sights, with graduations from 100-200 meters. Magazine housing has been professionally altered to accept MP-40 magazines. Complete with 3 total MP-40 magazines that have been modified for use with the MP-18. NFA Electronic registry indicates "Form 1 registration" as manufacturer. CONDITION: Metal components retain fair to good amounts of their arsenal blue finish, exhibiting areas of wear and thinning all around that show through to pleasant brown and gray patinas. Left side of receiver exhibits an area of pitting towards the magazine well. Mirror bore, exhibiting well-defined lands and grooves throughout. Stock has been lightly sanded and revarnished, bearing a crack at the front of the stock that runs through to the trigger guard assembly. Serial number is faint on the bottom of the stock. The Bergmann Model MP-18.I machine gun design would go on to influence many European small arms developments. This example, with its professionally modified magazine housing is a boone to hobbyist shooter. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 3 OR 4 AS CURIO & RELIC ELIGIBLE. MLW
