Lot consists of 2 items recovered at Bull Run of Manassas. (A) Confederate side knife with 12" blade, down-turned flat iron crossguard and 1" grip ferrule. Back edge is flat to 3" of tapering point. Small copper washer on tang. CONDITION: Very good excavated condition. Brown metal with edge losses and shallow surface pitting. Collection or inventory number BR63 in white at upper edge near guard on reverse. (B) Confederate tinned iron knife scabbard applied throat and belt loop, for a knife with 10" single edge blade. CONDITION: Fair excavated. Mixed gray and brown color, bends, partially flattened, tip missing and rust holes, but a scarce piece and form usually associated with Richmond products. Collection or inventory number BR45 in white on upper obverse. 2 nice excavated Confederate artifacts from the war's earliest large engagement.
