Late production German MP-40 machine gun marked "MP40 bnz 44" in-line with the bore on top of late-style end cap. Electronic registry indicates “SCHMEISSER (GE GERMANY)”. Numbers are matching on late production style barrel retention nut with two wrench flats, receiver, bolt, and rear assembly. Barrel has "(Eagle) / 37" (C.G. Haenel) proof marks and firing proof. No number on barrel except 562195B at 6 o’clock position which would be covered by barrel resting bar except no barrel resting bar is present. Front sight hood is of much earlier MP-38 type with slot for muzzle cover. Barrel resting bars can be acquired through the internet. 1 original leather sling and 1 original 32-round magazine included with this gun. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is fine original blue finish thinning to a grey and sometimes brown patina particularly on the barrel nut, end cap and swing-out shoulder loop, with deeper more lustrous blue on the barrel. Bore is extremely fine, shiny, and bright. Bolt face is extremely fine. Mechanics are crisp. Attractive brown Bakelite is in fine condition with some handling marks. Original leather sling is supple and serviceable. This is a fully automatic only machine gun. The 3-digit serial number without letter suffix indicates final assembly very early in 1944. Production of MP-40 guns ceased entirely in 1944 in favor of production of the MP-44 and STG-44 machine guns. This specimen would have been one of the last MP-40 machine guns produced by Steyr, and as such with the late production features in evidence, this gun is a desirable late war variant of this iconic German machine pistol.
