Danzig 1917 dated G98B bolt action rifle. Originally made 1917 at the Danzig factory, this rifle was later refurbished and issued in the Nazi era military. Chamber retains its imperial proofs. The Lange Vizier rear sight was removed, in favor of a K98 style sight adjustable to 2,000 meters. "S/42K" stamped on the sight collar, on the left stock line. "P37" proofs stamped on the right side of the collar. "(eagle)63" Waffenamt stamped on the bottom of the rear sight, in addition to "S/42". Imperial proofs still visible on the right side of the stock, in addition to a "B". Stock serial number on the bottom of the gun is illegible. No import mark found. Matching serials on receiver, barrel and bolt (both numbered to match at the time of refurbishment). Other components are mismatched. Dark blued finish applied at Mauser during refurbishment. Stock was lightly sanded and oiled during refurbishment. Includes some consignor research on the rifle. CONDITION: Metal retains 90% of its arsenal re-applied finish with light wear. Stock has a few handling marks and scratches. Bore is lightly frosted with good overall rifling. Mechanically fine. Fairly scarce rifle for your collection. JWA
