Very nice example of a World War I Imperial German Ludendorff Camouflage helmet. The helmet is marked "W66" for Hermann Weissenburger & Co., Stuttgart-Cannstatt. The helmet is beautifully painted and features shades of green, brown, and yellow in a patch pattern with the colors being separated by pattern correct finger wide black stripes. The shell retains both of the extended ventilation lugs which are the correct short version for the M16 helmet. The helmet also retains both of the domed chinstrap retaining rivets which hold the interior chin strap lugs in place. All three liner split pins remain in place including the correct thicker rear pin. The pins retain their original camouflage paint which matches the paint of the panels they are secured to. The interior of the helmet contains the correct three pad all leather liner with leather retaining band which remains intact. All six of the liner string adjustment tabs are intact and do not exhibit any tears at the edges near the liner string. The only piece needed to complete this helmet is the chinstrap. CONDITION: The helmet retains most of its original period camouflage. There are scattered areas of paint loss which reveal surface rust. The paint mostly remains bold, but there are scattered areas of fading, especially on the finger wide black stripes. The liner remains intact, but the leather is a bit stiff with areas of cracking and creasing. This is a quality example of a desirable theater camouflaged German helmet. JLD
