Extremely rare original U.S. steel Lewis 97-round pan magazine box. This box has the capacity to hold 3 97-round magazines on both the top and the bottom for a total capacity for 6 as well as receptacles to hold 2 loading tools. It can readily accept 47-round pan magazines as well. No pan magazines present. 2 spring-loaded latches are depressed to open this box and it has strong folding metal handles at either end. The pans snap into sheet metal studs within the box and are released in the same manner as the pans are released from the gun. Box stenciled on top, “LEWIS MACHINE GUN MAGAZINES U.S. - .30 CAL.”. CONDITION: Box retains about 60% of its original paint with original black stenciling, with a spot worn bare at the latter part of the stenciling. A nice box for the Lewis machine gun owner.
