Manufactured by Ohio Ordnance Works, this BAR 1918A3 is comprised of a newly manufactured semi-automatic receiver, which fires from a closed bolt, as well as G.I. surplus components. The top of the receiver is marked "MOD. 1918A3 U.S. CAL. 30 / SELF LOADING RIFLE / OHIO ORDNANCE WORKS, INC. / CHARDON, OH" followed by the patent number and the serial number. Metal components have been very nicely reparkerized. Features include a skid-footed bipod, cylindrical flash suppressor, standard walnut forearm, and a walnut buttstock with a flip up recoil plate. Buttstock has been modified on the left side to allow full travel of the charging handle. This example is accompanied by an additional magazine and a carry handle. CONDITION: Excellent, with exterior metal components retaining the vast majority of their reapplied parkerized finish, showing some scattered handling marks as well as several areas of wear showing through to light silvering on the left hand side of the receiver. Mirror bore, retaining well defined rifling throughout. Bolt face is very fine, showing little indication of use. Wood furniture shows few and minor handling marks. A very nice and attractive semi-automatic example of an iconic World War II U.S. light machine gun. MLW
