1895, GERMANY: The worlds most famous organ building town was Waldkirch, located deep in Germany's Black Forest District. There were many famous organ builder here, but of all Waldkirch organ makers, the foremost family was Bruder. This example of their small size portable had crank organ and is most likely a #3 or 4 model. Mistakenly referred to as a monkey organ, these portables were usual strapped around a performers neck with a large leather strap, and they would find a busy street corner and perform for change,. 32 keys, hand crank, in walnut cabinet reminiscent of Black Forest lumber. CONSIDERATIONS: Nice original patina, plays real well. the red cloth in the arched windows has been added, and it comes with a newer cart.
