Lot consists of 8 satirical carte-de-visite images of Jefferson Davis, 1 of his wife, 5 pieces of CS currency, 3 Confederate related period books The CDVs have various publishers. Most allude to Davis being captured in his wife's cloak, leading to many portrayals of him fleeing US forces in a dress. 1 combines the dress with the notion he should be hanged on a "sour apple tree." 1 is an early war photo of a painting titled The Neglected Picture, which shows a shattered portrait of the "Hon. Jeff Davis," alluding to his shattered reputation as a U.S. official, with an engraved portrait of his wife. Lot includes 5 pieces of CS currency: 5 and 10 dollar CS notes; 1 dollar State of Georgia; 20 dollar Augusta Insurance & Banking Company; 50 cent N.C. fractional note. The books are: "The Life of Jefferson Davis", 1868 by Alfriend; "The Lost Cause", 1866 by Pollard; "13 months in the Rebel Army", 1862, "By an impressed New Yorker". CONDITION: Good overall. Loss of upper edge to Georgia note. Some pencil notations of reverse of CDVs. Books are tight copies. Losses to leather of quarter-bound "Lost Cause".
