Lot consists of 2 items related to the Confederacy. (A) Period framed colored etching of the Confederate second national flag ascending through clouds and toward heaven with a starry, moonlit night in the background and quotation from “The Conquered Banner” underneath, reading: "The warrior's banner takes its flight to greet the warrior's soul." Written by Catholic priest and CS Army Chaplain A.J. Ryan and first published in June 1865, the poem became a sentimental “Lost Cause” favorite and the image, initialed “B.B.H.”, was published in several different forms. CONDITION: Very good. Period frame with wood backing. (B) Engraved portrait of Stonewall Jackson by Currier and Ives, with facsimile signature. CONDITION: Very good. Minor dust and surface dirt. Small stain at bottom. Modern frame. No glass. Neither examined out of frames.
