German World War II single decal mid-war spanner bolt Luftwaffe M38 Fallschirmjager helmet marked "ET68" for "Eisenhuttenwerk Thale", in a shell size of "68" with a lot number of "170". Shell exterior retains 65-70% of its rough gray-green paint, with moderate freckling, scattered marks, and paint streaks. Luftwaffe decal is 65-70% with its era-applied lacquer. Interior retains approximately 75% of its gray-green paint with freckling. The 4 gray-green painted steel spanner bolts all retain both of their steel inside nuts. The bolts and nuts have not been disturbed since WWII. Size "57" medium brown leather liner has moderate wear and damage. Rim has moderate wear, liner is broken through between 2 holes under the RBNr, cracked on the front, and dry. Liner is marked "Kopfweite Gr. 57", "Stahlhelm Gr. 68", and "RB-Nr. 0/0250/0201" (for Karl Heisler, Berlin). Zinc liner band with hard foam rubber pads are intact, as well as its crown pad. Fallschirmjager chinstrap assembly has moderate wear and has a repair. The right side strap was cut, perhaps from being removed from a Fallschirmjager casualty on the battlefield by the US GI, and later repaired with black thread. The chinstrap snap is locked down on the sliding leather piece. A nice combat worn helmet likely to have been recovered from the battlefield by a US GI. CONDITION: Overall good to very good. WEZ
