Lot consists of (A) Impressive Civil War Era D-guard bowie knife with a massive 23 - 3/8" blade. This knife was likely hand forged and custom made for its user. The knife's sizeable blade is complimented by an iron crossguard and D-guard which border the wood grip. The grip is likely a replacement, as it appears this knife was excavated and a new handle was applied for display. CONDITION: The blade is heavily worn, the tip has flattened, and the edge remains somewhat sharp. There is faint evidence of delamination flaws on the blade and guard. Relic. (B) Smaller but nearly impressive Civil War Era D-guard bowie knife with a 13 - 1/4" blade. This knife also appears to have been hand forged. The knife features a straight crossguard that is formed into a D-guard which meets the nail like pommel. The handle is of wood and appears to be the handle of an old tool or crank. The grip is likely a replacement, as it appears this knife was excavated and the wood grip was added later due to the inconsistent patina. CONDITION: The blade is heavily worn and the edge has dulled. The blade and guard both exhibit heavy pitting as well as delamination flaws. The wood grip exhibits blemishes including handling wear. Relic. PROVENANCE: Ex. Rich Guckes Collection. JLD
