Approximately 1000 made by E.G. Lamson Company, Windsor, Connecticut circa 1865. This gun was the first bolt action metallic cartridge arm to be accepted by the the Ordnance Department for use by Union troops. Gun has 20" round 5 groove .50 caliber barrel with blade front sight and 2 notch flip up rear sight. Bolt housing marked with Palmer patent, lock marked with 1865 date at rear with U.S. over Lamson address. Walnut wood stock with iron hardware, visible "MM" cartouche, with saddle ring. Interesting gun. CONDITION: Good condition with metal turning a brown patina and wood having sharp cartouche with little usage. Good bore and mechanics. DLM
