The "Mini-mi" machine gun derives its name from the French translation of "Mini Machine Gun". Now the standard Squad Automatic Weapon (SAW) of the United States and other countries, this model is innovative and may utilize either a belt or magazine ammunition feeding system. Gas piston operated and firing from an open bolt, it utilizes a rotary bolt locking system, and features a quick detachable chrome-lined barrel, carrying handle, and fixed composite shoulder stock, and incorporates a rail on the top cover with a Trijicon ACOG optic attached. Rail also present on Knight’s Armament forend for additional attachments. Marked "FN" within an oval over "HERSTAL" on left side of receiver with numerous original stock numbers on various parts. Black tape at bottom edge of ejection port protects lower edge of ejection port from finish loss when cover is closed. Small piece of felt at top cover hinge point protects top cover from finish loss upon opening and otherwise contacting barrel detent latch. Consignor was exceptional in his attention to detail to maintain his firearms in top condition. Electronic NFA Registry indicates “FN HERSTAL” as the manufacturer. PROVENANCE: From the collection of esteemed NFA firearms enthusiast and collector J. R. Moody. CONDITION: Near excellent original factory finish. Very slight loss of finish in feedway where belt would travel. Top cover rail and mechanism within top cover or feed tray near excellent. Optic is clear. Composite furnishings near excellent. Bore is near excellent, shiny and bright. Bolt face near excellent. Mechanics are crisp and smooth. Just about impossible to upgrade the overall condition of this specimen. Truly an outstanding "state of the art" light machine gun, versatile and fun to shoot as well as being very effective.
