High condition Beretta Model 70/223 SC machine gun in its desirable military folding-stock assault rifle configuration with bayonet lug, flip-up gas cut-off for grenade launching, and bipod as introduced and used by Italian special forces from the early 1970s until the 1990s. This machine gun was developed in the 1960s through a collaboration between SIG and Beretta as an alternative to the U.S. AR-15 rifle. It remained in Italian service along side the BM-59 until 1990 when the AR-70/90 replaced them both. This rifle has some interesting features, such as a dust cover over the charging handle slot which flips up under spring tension when the charging handle is pulled to the rear. Also a gas cut-off in order to accommodate firing rifle grenades. The “barrel” forward of the front sight is actually a removable sleeve which one mounts rifle grenades on. 2 30-round magazine are included with this lot. 1 magazine is marked on floorplate, “HQ BN 3” in white textile marker. Electronic NFA registry indicates “BERETTA” as the manufacturer. PROVENANCE: From the collection of esteemed NFA firearms enthusiast and collector J. R. Moody. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is near mint original finish throughout. Some slight loss to upgrade the condition of this gun. Bore is near excellent, shiny, and bright. Bolt face near excellent. Mechanics are crisp. This is a select-fire machine gun. This military configuration version is an EXCEPTIONALLY SCARCE machine gun to find in the United States as a fully transferable gun to individuals. In fact, it may be the ONLY fully transferable example original Beretta in the U.S. – A singular opportunity for the modern military machine gun collector. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 3 OR 4. JWK 2022-3-09
