Model PE57 semi-automatic rifle manufactured by SIG for commercial sales. Based off the Sturmgewehr 57 that was adopted by the Swiss military, the PE57 semi-automatic rifle was imported into the USA in extremely limited numbers during the 1980s, largely owing to its scarcity and desirability among collectors today. This example bears the Swiss cross within a shield above the serial number PE 3305" over the top of the chamber, with Swiss proofs stamped on the right. The left side of the trigger housing is stamped "3305/ SIGARMS INC./ Tysons Corner.VA/ Made in Switzerland". Selector is marked "S" in white and "1" in red. Top of stock socket is stamped with the encircled "SIG" logo. Features include a stamped steel construction, precision cast barrel trunnion, roller-delayed bolt, gray phosphate finish, 24" barrel with integral muzzle brake, bayonet lug, ventilated barrel shroud, flip-up sights reminiscent of the German FG-42, "T" shaped charging handle, serrated polymer pistol grip, fold-up rubberized buttstock & forend, as well as a brown leather sling. Matching numbers are present on the receiver, barrel shroud, trigger housing, stock socket, as well as the bolt assembly. Complete with test target, SIG manual, and Swiss Army manual. PROVENANCE: From the collection of esteemed NFA firearms enthusiast and collector J. R. Moody. CONDITION: Excellent, with metal components retaining the vast majority of their original factory applied finish, showing some minor superficial marks from handling and storage overall. Left side of trigger housing shows the standard line of silvering from operation of the safety lever, and barrel shows some lines of silvering from disassembly. Mirror bore, exhibiting well defined rifling throughout. Polymer pistol grip shows a few minor marks from handling and storage overall. Rubber forend and buttstock are very good overall. Sling is excellent. An extremely fine example of a scarce and highly desirable SIG PE57 semi-automatic rifle, that demonstrates the upmost quality of Swiss produced firearms. MLW
