High condition Beretta Model SCS 70/.223 carbine machine gun in its shortened configuration as introduced and used by Italian special forces from the early 1970s until the 1990s. This machine gun was developed in the 1960s through a collaboration between SIG and Beretta as an alternative to the U.S. AR-15 rifle. It remained in Italian service alongside the BM-59 until 1990 when the AR-70/90 replaced them both. This rifle has a dust cover over the charging handle slot which flips up under spring tension when the charging handle is pulled to the rear. The barrel forward of the front sight is actually a removable sleeve. 1 30-round magazine is included with this lot. Electronic NFA Registry indicates “Imported NFA FIREARM”. PROVENANCE: From the collection of esteemed NFA firearms enthusiast and collector J. R. Moody. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is near mint original finish throughout. A small piece of felt has been adhered to the right side of the holding shoulder loop so that it will not mar the finish of the gun when it is in the folded position. Bore is near excellent, shiny and bright. Bolt face near excellent. Mechanics are crisp. This is a select-fire machine gun. This carbine model of this Italian machine gun from the 1970s/80s is a scarce specimen to find in the United States. No doubt some NFA dealer is going to be very happy to add this to their inventory. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS ONLY ELIGIBLE FOR TRANSFER TO ACTIVE FFL/SOT DEALERS AS A PRE-86 DEALER SAMPLE. Pre-86 dealer sample machine guns may be retained privately by a sole proprietor FFL/SOT dealer after they relinquish their license, with BATF approval JWK 2022-3-16
