British Lanchester machine gun, immediately recognizable by its brass magazine housing and classic profile. This model is the culmination of the Bergmann MP/18 System Schmeisser, and MP-28 designs as essentially copied by the British in an attempt to utilize less expensive materials and time-consuming manufacturing processes in the final days before stamped sheet metal machine guns became the order of the day. Marked “LANCHESTER MK I*” with British proofs and “43” date on magazine housing. 1 original 50 round magazine and 1944 dated web sling are included with this lot. This gun was made using an American registered tube and an original set of parts. Some discoloration can be seen underneath the bluing where the rear sight was welded onto the tube incidental to manufacture. Contemporary serial number on tube does not match number on magazine housing. Electronic NFA registry indicates “FORM 2 REGISTRATION” as the manufacturer. Consignor is an FFL/SOT dealer and does not have any further detail as to name of actual manufacturer who registered this piece. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is extremely fine to near excellent lustrous blue finish upon remanufacture with a rather plum color, particularly on the barrel shroud. Wood has been refinished over some light handling marks. Bore is near excellent, shiny, and bright. Bolt face is near excellent. Mechanics are crisp. This is a full-auto only machine gun. A nice specimen of a scarce British machine gun, which does surface for private ownership very often. A pleasant slow-firing, and history classic machine gun at the range. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 3 or 4. JWK 2022-3-44
