Adopted by the British for use in training RAF (Royal Air Force) personnel during World War II. The Swift Rifle Company manufactured approximately 16,000 of these rifles between 1941-1943. These rifles familiarized personnel with the SMLE rifles, without the need to fire ammunition or be situated at a range. The only markings are present on a brass plaque on the right side of the stock, which is marked "THE SWIFT TRAINING RIFLE / 9B / 2030 / S.R. MK.IV" followed by the serial number "15127". Features include a stamped steel construction, full length wood stock and upper handguard, as well as a spring loaded buttplate. Rifle is accompanied by an original transit case as well as 2 "SWIFT TRAINING RIFLE / TARGET I" sheets. CONDITION: Very good overall, with metal components retaining the majority of their original black painted and blued finish, with some light surface oxidation on blued components and minor wear from use overall. Stock shows some scattered marks from handling and storage, but is otherwise fine. Fixed wood magazine shows some wear overall, but is otherwise sturdy and serviceable. Case show exterior wear and some cracking, but is otherwise fine, with the interior retaining its original paper label. This is not a firearm. MLW
