Lot consists of: (A) Very nice example of a Model 1861 saber bayonet and scabbard. The bayonet features a signature Civil War yataghan style saber blade that is devoid of markings, and a cast brass hilt which is inspector marked "B.H." on the backstrap. Complete with its black leather scabbard with brass mounts. CONDITION: The blade is bright and exhibits evidence of an older cleaning with several areas of pitting, especially towards the ricasso. The brass hilt exhibits an untouched mellow patina showing typical age spots, but no heavy blemishes. The locking spring and button are in place and functional. The scabbard mounts retain all of their original securing rivets and remain firmly attached to the scabbard body. Leather remains firm with tight seam. Overall very good. (B) US Navy M1870 Saber Bayonet and scabbard. The bayonet features a signature Civil War saber style blade that is marked "AMES MFR CO / CHICOPEE, / MASS." on the obverse ricasso and "U.S.N. / G.G.S. / 1870" on the reverse ricasso. Cast brass hilt with simulated scaled grip and crossed cannons over fouled anchor markings on each side of the pommel. Complete with its black leather scabbard with brass mounts. CONDITION: The blade is bright and exhibits evidence of an older cleaning with several areas of pitting. The hilt exhibits a pleasing mustard patina with scattered age spots and light handling wear. The locking spring and button function, but are stiff and stick at times. The scabbard mounts retain all of their original securing rivets and remain firmly attached to the scabbard body. Mounts exhibit various dents, one crack in lower mount. Leather remains firm but exhibits cracking and creasing. Stitching has come loose at areas of the seam. Overall good. JLD
