British Victorian era cavalry helmet with die struck brass plate of the Duke of Lancasters Own. This style of helmet has been in use since 1877, with a number of colors including black and silver. Gilt body with the original liner, leather backed chin scales, and horsehair plume. The large helmet plate bears the full regimental cypher with 3 lions passant. The chin scales also are retained by floral fittings. 15" tall by 7 - 1/2" wide. CONDITION: Much of the brass was silvered, now bare brass, with crazing and cracks. Original 8 fingered liner, extensive repair to the inside to reinforce the thin brass that was crushed, but displays well.
